Holy thistle oil
Unique healing properties of milk thistle, as it is popularly called, has been known since ancient times and now are widely used in pharmaceutical industry. Interestingly, in many European countries this plant is named after Virgin Mary. This is primarily due to the healing powers of holy thistle as well as its appearance. According to a legend, white spots on the plant’s leaves are the milk of Virgin Mary. It’s no coincidence that in Bulgary healing milk thistle is called “Virgin Mary’s gift”.
All parts of holy thistle are used in medicine which makes this plant unique. Holy thistle is especially useful for liver disease treatment and prevention. Nevetheless, doctors say that the most useful product made from holy thistle is oil, because it can be used not only externally, but also internally.
Chlorophyll, which is contained in the oil, gives it a greenish tint. This antibacterial substance activates metabolism in cells, promotes wound healing and epithelialization, rejuvenates tissues. In addition, chlorophyll has a beneficial impact on digestive system, cardiovascular and endocrine systems as well as prevents kidney stones.
Milk thistle oil is rich in carotenoids, which stimulate metabolism in cardiac muscle and liver. Carotene is useful for retina and in case of atherosclerosis.
Tocopherols, which also form the part of holy thistle oil, prevent tumours, postpone aging and maintain reproductive functions.
Silymarin is a particularly important component of holy thistle oil. It can strengthen and regenerate liver cells. It is this substance that prevents cholesterol from settling on blood vessels walls and excretes it from the body, maintaining general fat balance.
Holy thistle oil also includes essential polyunsaturated acids, such as linoleic (omega -6) and oleic (omega -9). These acids are responsible for lipid metabolism and hormonal balance. As an additional drug for liver and gastrointestinal diseases, 1 teaspoon of holy thistle oil is recommended twice a day half an hour before meals. The treatment course lasts 1 month, and it should be repeated in a week.

People suffering from chronic rhinitis are recommended to drop a mixture of holy thistle oil and tea tree oil into their nose: 3 ml of tea tree oil are added to 100 ml of holy thistle oil. The same mixture can be used to treat otitis.
Holy thistle oil is used in cosmetology. To strengthen hair, it is recommended to rub the heated oil into hair roots for fifteen minutes 2-3 times a week. To achieve the desirable effect, take 2 courses of 10 sessions with a 2-3 weeks interval.
To make your face and neck skin more elastic and to prevent early wrinkles, place a cloth soaked in holy thistle oil for 20 minutes. The procedure shall be repeated twice a week.
Holy thistle oil it has softening properties so you can rub it into your skin after shave.
